The Fiero Formula - appeared as a 1988 model only. It was $2,000 more than the base Coupe model and provided four features that were borrowed from the more popular GT model: 1) the 2.8L V6 engine (which was not an available option on the 1988 Coupe) 2) the rear wing 3) the black or gold honeycomb wheels, and 4) a black or white decal on the lower portion of the doors that read 'Formula'. It was a shameless rip-off of the Firebird Formula model, which was also just an appearance package. The last three appearance options cost about $500 max; so the buyer was spending $1,500 for the better V6 engine (which had been available for much less in the earlier SE and 1985/6 GT models. Most customers considered the Formula to be 'a rip-off' so there weren't very many ordered. The result is that a 1988 Formula with very low miles in showroom condition is considered one of the most collectible Fieros today. Pure supply and demand.
This example is what my very first Fiero looked like. It had the optional automatic transmission.
